Day Trip to Maine

We spent the day in Maine and New Hampshire! I have always wanted to go to Maine. And although we only spent time in Kittery, a small town that is barely across the border of the state, we enjoyed our time there and definitely plan to return to visit the beaches and see more of its coastal towns. We're in the market for some New England winter coats, so we drove to Kittery to visit the outlet mall there.

The only lighthouse we saw was attached to this restaurant.

Next time we go to Maine we'll try to find a real lighthouse! The drive was really pretty though. We took the scenic route on the way home down the coast of New Hampshire. It was gorgeous.

There was a stretch of road where every house was AMAZING. There weren't a lot of places to pull over, otherwise I would have taken more photos of these coastal mansions, but I managed to snap a couple from the car . . .

We'll be making this drive again as soon as we can!

Timing the Commute

We woke up early, walked down the block, hopped on the 86 bus, transferred onto the subway, and made our way to broadway street in Cambridge where Jeff will be meeting on his first day with KPMG. During his internship last summer, he worked out of the Boston office in the financial district, but his company recently opened an office in Cambridge, which is conveniently closer to where we live, and Jeff wanted to see how long the commute would take during rush hour. It wasn't too long at all!

It was great to find out that the KPMG Cambridge office was literally across the street from the subway exit.

The office is on the fifteenth floor of this building.

We arrived at the office earlier than expected and had some time to see the surroundings and enjoy the nice weather. We found this awesome area just a few blocks away.

After walking around Cambridge a bit, we got back on the T and headed into downtown Boston. It's fun to just walk around the city and take in the sites. First stop, Quincy Market!

Cool outdoor book sale in the Downtown Crossing area.

After lunch at Boloco (a tasty burrito restaurant) we walked across Boston Common and into the Public Gardens. We loved spending time here last summer and wanted to go again.

Quite possibly my favorite statue in Boston.

We love the Boston Public Garden. It was a fun day in the city!

Concord, MA

These past couple of weeks have been great. Jeff doesn't start work until October, so we've had time to get settled into our new place and also do some exploring. Today we went to Concord. What a lovely historic town! Especially pretty this time of year.

I love the caption on the church sign.

Cute buildings and tiny pumpkins!

We walked up to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery (just a few blocks from the center of town) to see Author's Ridge where a number of famous author's are buried.

Ralph Waldo Emerson grave site.

Daniel Chester French grave site.

The famous sculptor who designed the minuteman statue at the Old North Bridge (see below), and the Lincoln memorial in D.C.

Such a beautiful place!

A Visit from our New York Family

Just as we hoped, the Webbs came to visit! They packed up the kiddos in the car and made the drive from Ithaca to Boston on friday to meet us for a night at the best ballpark on earth. FENWAY PARK!!! I love that place so much. The sights, sounds, and smells of a ballpark are just magical.

Crazy Boston Fans.

It was the perfect game to go to - the Red Sox took the AL East Division Championship with the win!

Maggie was a little tired after the game.

Riding the T!

On Saturday we drove south of the city to visit Joe's friend and his wife. We had a wonderful lunch and then walked around the Arnold Arboretum. This place will be flush with fall colors in a few weeks. We might have to go back!

View of Boston city skyline from the Arnold Arboretum.

I wanted to get a picture of US sitting here with the city skyline behind, but this couple didn't move. So just pretend it's us and it's a lovely photo.

Saturday evening we drove out to Westford, MA to visit Kimball Farm again. We thought we were headed to the ice cream stand we visited last summer, but instead our GPS took us to the real Kimball Farm which had much more to offer. It was a fun surprise!

It ended up being this huge place with everything from the ice cream stand to mini golf, batting cages, and a petting zoo. There was a seafood and burger grill too so we got dinner!

Joe got the twin lobster. So much food!
And of course we got some Kimball Farm ice cream. So thick, creamy, and delicious.

Even the kiddie cones are giant.

It's confirmed. Kimball Farm has THE best ice cream.

We ate our treats inside the country store, which was totally cute!

After ice cream we got some tokens for the batting cages and hit our little hearts out.

It was great to have the Webbs here, even if it was just a couple of days. Hope to see them again soon!
